I practice my lifelong love of filmmaking in amiskwacîwâskahikan, Treaty 6 territory (Edmonton). The deepest goal of my work is to help foster a more just and loving world through artfully told stories that inspire audiences. I draw inspiration from everywhere: friends, strangers, family, nature, history, poetry dance, comics, comedy, and, of course, film. My nearest and dearest filmmakers include Terrence Malick, Ingmar Bergman, Andrea Arnold, Allan King, Sarah Polley, and Andrei Tarkovsky. Themes I explore in my work include culture clash, intersectionality, dystopia, community in unlikely places, and love at the end of the world. My favourite thing about filmmaking is that its the ultimate team sport: a group of people with diverse skills and talents and ways of being working together collaboratively toward a common goal; it's one of the most tangible and beautiful experiences of real community, however brief, that one can have. The relationships I've made with my filmmaking teammates remain some of the best friendships in my life.
